Dear Friends,
It is hard to believe it is almost a year since I took over the Presidency of the Union. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of the Union and its activities.

I would like to thank all who attended our recent Bridge night and especially to thank Frances Purcell for organising our first fundraiser of the year.

Forthcoming Events
Loreto Hockey Club Dinner will be held on Saturday 7th May in Castle Golf Club, Rathfarnham at 7pm. Cost €38. Further details can be found on their website loretohockeyclub.ie or from Bronwyn at 087 811 0962.

Loreto Golf Society 74th Annual Outing will take place, as usual, in Hermitage Golf Club, Lucan, on Friday May 27th, and will, once again, be a Single’s Stableford Competition with a Shotgun Start at 1:30pm. Check in at Hermitage Golf Club no later than 1:00pm. In response to requests made in previous years they have decided to introduce a ‘Visitor’s Prize’. Members may invite a guest to compete in this category. The golf will be followed immediately by dinner and prize giving. Ann Murray is running time sheet again this year which will open each evening from 7pm – 9pm from Thursday May 5th 2016, and each night thereafter. Please phone Ann Murray at: 01-4935909 or 0868565076 to reserve your slot. The cost for the meal and golf will be €65 again this year.

Union Day will be held in Loreto Abbey, Dalkey on Sunday May 22nd. Mass will commence at 3:00pm, followed by the A.G.M. and afternoon tea. This always proves to be a very enjoyable afternoon and is a great chance to catch up with old friends.

Women’s Mini Marathon takes place on Monday June 5th. Some committee members and friends will be taking part and would welcome company on the route. If however, you cannot take part you can still contribute by sponsoring those who are. Please use the enclosed sponsorship form and send your donation to the office.

Please find enclosed the AGM notice, the Secretary’s Annual Report and a copy of the Annual Accounts.

Annual Subscriptions are due for payment on June 1st. Please complete enclosed membership subscription form and send it, along with cash or cheque for €20 to the office. Subscriptions are a very important source of income for the Union.

I want to thank you all for your continued support of all Union activities and I look forward to meeting you all at one of our events in the near future.

Kind regards,

Dear All,
I had intended to ease myself slowly into the role of president. However, I got the sad news just before my first meeting that Loreto Hall is closing at the end of October. This means I am in the throes of organising our move to the new office and reorganising dates. I am very happy to say that Sr. Ita, Provincial, is allowing us to move the office to Abbey House. I am delighted with this news as we will be able to maintain our strong links with the Loreto Sisters who are so welcoming to us.
Our new address is Abbey House, Loreto Terrace, Grange Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.
Our new telephone number is 089 7000 361
Email address is lppu@eircom.net

We have a busy time coming up to Christmas. Stephanie Graham is hosting a Coffee Morning in her home, 43 Rathfarnham Road, Terenure, on Saturday 7th November from 11am to 4pm. All funds will go to the Benevolent Fund. There are great demands on this Fund and we remain indebted to Stephanie for her generosity.

The Annual Mass for Deceased Members will now take place on Sunday 15th November in Abbey House at 3pm. Please telephone our new number or email us if you have any names to add to our list.

Our trip to Galway will take place on 20th November.

Our annual Christmas Lunch is on Saturday 5th December in Clayton Hotel, Ballsbridge. I enclose a booking form, which you can return to Abbey House.

I hope to continue to support all our charities again at Christmas. This year we have 2 dates for Carol Singing. On Thursday 10th December we will be singing in St Stephen’s Green Centre from 12 noon to 7pm. I am delighted to say Beaufort will be joining us at 12 noon and I am awaiting confirmation of participants for the later times. We will also have our usual Carol Singing on Tuesday 15th December in Grafton Street supported by The Green, Foxrock, Dalkey and Verdi 53 from 12 noon to 8pm.

I am enclosing tickets for the Christmas Raffle. The draw will take place at the Christmas Lunch.

May I take this opportunity to remind you about our Christmas Card. Packs of 10 are €8 and 3 packs are €20. They will be available for sale at the Mass and the lunch.

I want to thank you all for your continued support of all Union activities and I look forward to meeting you at all or one of our evnts in the near future.

Kind Regards

A Chairde, October 2014

We, on the committee, have been quite busy since my last letter. We held our Race Night in The Goat on September 25th. While it was very poorly attended, all who came really enjoyed the night. This was due in no small way to our compere for the night, Doug Murray. Despite the poor attendance, we raised the grand total of €3,300 for our charity fund. Thanks to all who contributed.

We also held a Cake Sale on Sunday October 12th in Milltown Pastoral Centre. The venue was lovely and we were made very welcome, had a lovely morning and managed to raise €860 into the bargain. Many thanks to all the bakers and supporters.

Our next event will be our Mass for deceased past pupils and Loreto Sisters. This will be held in Loreto Hall, 77 St. Stephen’s Green on Sunday November 16th at 3:00pm. We would like to remember all those who have died during the last year. So that we may include all their names in the candle ceremony, please let us have the names and school details of any past pupil, who has died since last November, as soon as possible. Please call Emily on 0872913028 or Marion on 0872886361. Families of the deceased are very welcome to attend on the day. This is a very special day in our calendar and I look forward to seeing many of you on the 16th.

Included with this letter is a booking form for the Christmas Lunch on Saturday December 6th. This year we will be holding the lunch in the Davenport Hotel, Lower Merrion Street. The Christmas get together is always a very enjoyable occasion and hopefully this year the city centre location will prove convenient for many. In recent years past pupils have used this event to organise class reunions. Should you wish to organise such a reunion, please let us know as soon as possible.

At the lunch we will hold our annual Christmas Raffle. This is a major fund raiser for our charities and we need as much support as possible to make it a success. As you will notice, from the 2 books of tickets included with this letter, any of the prizes would be well worth winning. We look forward to receiving as many counterfoils as possible in the lead up to November 28th. You will be helping a very good cause and you may even win a weekend away.

Carol Singing in Grafton Street will take place on Thursday December 11th. Our location, for this year, has been changed. Due to a charity event in Brown Thomas, we have been moved to the top of the street. Girls from Loreto Stephen’s Green will sing from 12 noon to 1:30pm, when girls from Loreto Foxrock will take over until 3:00pm. Loreto Dalkey will then sing until 6:00pm, at which time Verdi 53, which is made up of Stephen’s Green past pupils and staff, will sing until 8:00pm. We hope the beautiful singing, as in previous years, will raise a large sum for our charity fund. Make sure you let all your friends know where to find us!

I hope many of you will be able to join us at one of the above events.

A Chairde,

As we approach May it is hard to believe that one year of my presidency has almost passed. Our first fundraiser of 2014 was a Coffee Morning / Cake Sale in Stephanie Graham’s house on March 21st. It was a huge success, adding over €2,800 to our Benevolent Fund. This will be used to help Loreto past pupils who are suffering during these difficult financial times. I would like to thank Stephanie for being so generous with her time and home and for hosting such a successful event.

Our next fundraiser will be the Women’s Mini Marathon on Monday June 2nd. Some committee members will be taking part and would welcome company on the route. If however, you cannot take part you can still contribute by sponsoring those who are. Please use the enclosed sponsorship form and send your donation to the office.

Our major fundraiser of this year will be a Race Night in The Goat on Thursday September 25th. To ensure the success of the race night, we need to appeal to all of you for your support. You can do this by ‘buying a horse’ for €20, ‘buying a trainer or a jockey’ for €10 or by sponsoring a race for €200. You could also buy advertising space in our brochure. As the brochure/ race card must be produced in advance of the event, please send in your donation as soon as possible.

Annual Subscriptions are due for payment on June 1st. Please complete enclosed membership subscription form and send it, along with cheque for €20 to the office. Subscriptions are a very important source of income for the Union.

Forthcoming Events:

Loreto Golf Society 72nd Annual Outing will be held in the Hermitage Golf Club on Friday May 9th. It will be a shotgun start at 1:00pm and all players must assemble by 1:00pm. The cost is €65 for golf and dinner and for bookings please contact Ann Murray on 01 4935909

A.G.M. will be held in Loreto Hall, 77, St Stephen’s Green on Wednesday May 14th at 7:45pm.

Union Day will be held in Loreto Abbey, Dalkey on Sunday May 18th. Mass will commence at 2:45pm followed by short presentation and afternoon tea. This always proves to be a very enjoyable afternoon and is a great chance to catch up with old friends.
